Maryam Ashkan is the Managing Director and Supervisor at MentalOptimist Clinic. She is a Registered psychotherapist and is certified in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), EMDR, and Brainspotting. She is also recognized as a Brainspotting Consultant with Brainspotting Canada and internationally. Additionally, Maryam provides clinical supervision for Registered Psychotherapists.
Maryam is a member of ISSTD and specializes in working with Dissociative Identity Disorder.​

With over 20 years of experience, Maryam has worked across both for-profit and nonprofit sectors, providing comprehensive psychotherapy services to individuals, families, children, and trauma survivors. She is dedicated to integrating neuroscience into psychotherapy, employing an integrative and client-centred approach that values the mind-body connection.

Maryam has several academic publications in the fields of visual perception, religious orientation and emotional intelligence, and emotional intelligence related to conflict management styles. Some notable works include:
